15:50 - 16:10 Keynote

How Power Purchase Agreements support the Energy Transition

In 2020, only about 1 percent of the green power plant capacity in Europe was financed by Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). However, these long-term power purchase agreements are currently in vogue among companies, as they allow them to reduce CO2 emissions and at the same time buy electricity cheaply; by the early 2030s, the expansion of RE plants is expected to be almost entirely handled through power purchase agreements.

European and federal regulations and strict financial and sustainability reporting requirements are increasing the pressure on companies to purchase unsubsidised electricity from renewable sources.

This keynote deals with

  • the history of PPAs in Europe
  • Comparison of Physical / Virtual PPAs
  • Opportunities & hurdles in implementation / pricing
  • Prospects for growth
